Why are some places mountainous?
Currents in the red-hot molten material (magma) under these tectonic plates cause them to move about (see Source 1). In some places, they are being pushed into one another (converging). This process creates mountain ranges. In other places, tectonic plates are being pulled apart from one another (diverging).
